Hello there

I've had my 4 false Julii in my tank for (hmmm) I think 4 months or so ... the tank has been cycled (I started it back in June).

My Ammonia and Nitrite are 0
PH is 6.8
Nitrate is 5
50% water changes & gravel vac on Sundays

I have 2 male guppies and the 4 cories in a 10 gal with 2 filters

My question: This cory has gotten very pale and her dorsal fin doesn't stand up any more. Behavior and eating seems normal. Is this anything to worry about?

Thanks guys!

Thanks dvd_wightman

The only 2 'diseases' that describe pale color are TB and neon disease.

Anyone have other thoughts of fish that lose color?

Thanks

This is probably no help but I have a small school of 8 Cory Sodalis and two of them are very pale. They seem fine otherwise.

It actually is a help because the fish seems otherwise healthy - I am just wonder if she/he is sick or just lighter in color (I thought she was darker or the same color as the other ones but I could not be remembering correctly)

Cory kid - you out there -- do you have different shades of the false Julii??

Hi,

I have four C. trilineatus, like you. Mine are all nicely coloured, but when I clean the tank, they tend to become lighter probably because of the stress of their tank being turned upside down. Do you know of anything that might be stressing out your Cory? It also might mean that one Cory is not that healthy.

I can't really think of anything that would stress the cory out. The only other thing in the tank are guppies. I guess I will just take a wait and see attitude because besides her color and dorsal fin, she eats and behaves like the other ones.

Thanks everyone.

She died

Well, 16 days after my first post the pale Julii died. She was absolutely translucent when I pulled her from the tank. I could see no signs of disease on her and I really looked!

He only symptoms was losing her color and her dorsal fin would not stand up.

Not sure if the Melafix contributed to her dying but one of my guppies has a ripped tail so I was using Melafix in the tank.

I changed 75% of the water, new carbon

Ammonia/Nitrite 0
NitrAte 5
PH 7.2
temp 75

Any guesses on illness?

melafix should have made her better, not worse. sometimes fish just aren't healthy, and there's nothing you did wrong to cause their death. it was gonna happen.

One possiblility is some form of cancer. Cancer cells can drain the rest of the body of nutrients which could have resulted in paleness. No real way to know though.
