I have an aquarium with 3 fantail goldfish, a celestial eye goldfish and a hillstream loach. Whenever I feed, the 4 goldfish are straight up to the top or on the gravel filling their guts. However, this morning when I fed - The smallest of my fantails didn't eat anything at all and was just staying about halfway up the tank and floating around. He is normally one of the most active fish.

What's the matter with him?

did he make no effort to eat what so ever? have you checked him for any other signs of illness? how long has he not been eating for? have you done a 50% water change? what are your levels like?

What are your water parameters? Size of tank? When was the tank setup? When did you buy the fish? Providing more details makes it easier for us to dig deeper into your situation.

On the side note, IMO, hillstreams prefer clean waters so goldfish are inappropriate tankmates for them.

try not feeding....

I would not feed the fish for 2 days. They will be fine. The goldfish could simply be constipated & it won't hurt the other fish to go for a couple of days without either. Remember, in the wild they would not have such great meals on a daily basis. I would feed briefly steamed frozen & -de-shelled & finely chopped peas on the third day. Don't over-feed. Only what they will eat in 2-3 minutes. Sometimes I like to feed twice daily, and then only what they will eat in about 1 minute at each feeding. Hope this helps.
xo :)
