i built my own hood for the tank and i have noticed a small ammount of mould in the hood of the aquarium :( condensation/heat....not a good combo then i assume.

i have a condensation try but there are areas where moisture is unavoidable. what have you coated the inside of your hood with to prevent this? i was tempted ot paint or varnish it or something..but what if the condensation builds up...drops back into the tank and any toxins out of the paint etc travel with it?

how have you avoided this ? what have you coated the inside of your hood with?

Thanks in advance

I have several wood canopies I have built and don't get consensation in any of them. Water vapor needs cool surfaces to condense and my lights keep everything warm enough to avoid it. My suggestion would be to add some vents or a fan to get the water vapor out from under the hood. Or, add glass tops to prevent the evaporation in the first place.

i do have a perspex condensation tray, but because it is a tight fit there is a piece which i had to cut away in the corner to allow the cables through the moisture must be coming from that, but there is nothing i can do about that really. i suppose i could add a fan if i wanted to, can't see that being too much of a big problem

Fully-cured varnish is non-toxic and even food-safe.

A good coat of polyurethane is very good protection. Even better is an epoxy coating, but that may be going a bit overboard.

could someone tell me what FAO means?
