farlowella in a 10g?

hi, all! :hi: I posted this thread because I want to know if it would be okay to keep a farlowella in a 10g tank. now before you start yelling about how dumb an idea this is, hear me out. now, i'm going to be breeding my zebra pleco soon, so i'm going to move her to a 20g tank and get her a mate. now in her absence, my tank will be without an essential fish in it's mini ecosystem, so I thought about getting a SMALL farlowella species (under 8 inches), because they're really cool and challengeing fish, and one of those fish that just make people go WOW!! now, I know 8" is a little big for a 10G, but keep in mind that all the mass of this fish is in it's length. will this work?

IMO it's too big for a 20g or a 10g. Regardless of mass, it's a long fish and needs space. Both a 10 and a 20 are only 12" deep, that's not very much space for an 8" fish to turn around in, thin or no.

What does this mean? If your keeping a Zebra pleco for algae control your zebra will starve to death. A Zebra is more carnivore than an algae eater, and should be fed meaty foods like bloodworms and brineshrimp. Also to try and breed the zebra it is recomended to have 2 or 3 females to every male.

To answer your original question a farlowella is way to big for a 10gal.

HAHAHAHAHAH!!! you honestly thought I kept my zebra in there for algae control!?! i'm not just some dumb newbie, i've been doing this for 10 years! I feed my zebra blanched vegitables everyday, along with algae wafers, brine shimp, bloodworms, and even some apple. I meant a bottom feeder when I said that, because I personally believe every tank needs a bottom feeder. also, I only posted this question because the most trusted-by-me guy at my LFS said that a farlowella might be a good algae-eater for my 10g. guess he wanted to make a sale! I guess i'll go for a peckoltia, then.

From your original question It was kinda confusing as to why you were keeping the zebra, Especially when you were asking about a farlowella. Your tank seems kinda peaceful if your want something to scavenge what about amano shrimp?

good suggestion, but my betta is a master shrimp hunter. he will hunt down and kill any shrimp or other crustacean that dares enter his tank, no matter the size, and then eats them very piggishly. also, he always makes a HUGE mess when he does.

Amano's will fight back! But that's a 4 or 5 dollar gamble. What about some ramshorn snails? I have red ramshorns in all my planted tanks and they keep everything clean, won't eat plants, plus they look nice.
