Fast, tightly schooling fish suggestions?

I have 6 Striped Barb Barbus(Puntius) johorensis in a 125 and they school tight and fast. They swim midlevel and are about 5" long. I aslo have 3 Denison Barbs that school but are not as tight as the barbs.

In another 125 tank I have 6 Debauwi Catfish that get about 4" and are always together in the middle of the tank. They swim in the current of the filter. They are not as active as the barbs, but fun to watch.

I think you'll find that most schooling fish will school in tight groups in the presence of a large predator. I tank care of a 175g tank with 2 large piranhas in it. There are also about 50 neon tetras and 30 glow-light tetras. The small fish school tightly. After all, that's what the schooling behavior is all about... not getting eaten.

And, the schooling fish do NOT get eaten by the piranhas (there are lots of hiding spots too). The fish that DO get eaten are the feeder goldfish. Stupid goldfish. They should learn to school.

I'd say, just get whatever schooling fish appeals to you. If you have them in a tank with a big threatening fish, THEY WILL SCHOOL. Just make sure they have places to get away from big mouths. You will in all likelihood find that some of them occasionally get eaten, so get cheap fish and replace 'em over time.
