Ok, well here's the scoop.

I have two black skirt tetras. I'm not sure of their genders, but one of them is HUGE. Like, really fat and engourged (sp.?) It is fine, and I know she doesn't have dropsy, because she's been like that for a while. But, could it just be a pig, or is she full of eggs?

My other tetra is fine, normal sized and no where near as fat as his/her companion.

And if she is full of eggs, could I expect tetra breeding anytime soon?

well, my betta gets like that after feeding, too, and last time I checked, he was a male. most likely he/she's just a hearty eater.;)

yea i got a tiger barb that is huge he just gets to the food fastest i guess

next time your feeding the fish, look at the fish from above. If it's evenly "fat" it's just full of eggs, if it's fatter on one side, then you most likely have problems with internal parasites.

I'm doubtfull you'll get any tetra breeding, conditions aren't right becuase of the inadequete school size.

Yea, I know. I used to have alot until I hit a bad ich experience. But she is evenly fat. She has been that way for atleast a week, but she is perfectly normal and happy.

I probably will not get more of these fish though, I don't particuarly want them anymore, but I'll keep them till' the day they die, cause their my buddies. I just won't be adding to their school.

if the tetra's just a chubby little bugger, just don't feed him/her for a day or two and he/she will shrink to normal size.

I had one that was a pig and would push all the others out of the area when the food was dropped. Probably just a pig..
