Fate or blind luck?

i'm glad those people let their animals go to someone who will start taking care of them. both, bearded dragon and chameleon are too thin. great rescue

I have a lot of work to do getting them back into tip top shape. They have never been fed anything other than crickets and lettuce so today I introduced them to grated carrots and red green grapes. I'm surprised how much they ate! Thin Lizzy now has a noticeable bulge in her belly! lol

Tomorrow I shop for some female mice to add to the kids collection of male mice so we can hopefully breed some pinkies for a weekly treat...
 
I would suggest doing research on the pinkies and bearded dragons, while some people do feed them pinkies most will tell you to absolutely not. They are very fatty which can cause problems among other things. But Im glad you are helping to rehab them. Beardies are great lizards. I have one thats about 7-8 months old and almost 17 inches. I would consider introducing them to Superworms. Superworms are great staples for 16 inch plus lizards. Did they give you a UVB flourescent fxiture/bulb with the tanks? If not I would reccomend buying one online, you can get the bulbs for under $20 online instead of 45-55 in the store.

Again, good luck with the new additions, Im sure youll have them in great shape in no time, Im glad someone got them that is willing to care for them properly :) Also that chameleon does look really nice, Ive always wanted one, You definately did hit the jackpot.

Thanks! Jackpot indeed! Beardies of similar size sell for close on $300 each here so we probably scored around $1000 worth of ! :)

Some good advice there and I'll definitely research more on the pinkies. The pro-pinkie info I came across didn't mention fat content at all and focussed more on the calcium value. I'll look into superworms but I haven't seen them available in the local stores. In the short term I don't think a little fat would do much harm to Thin Lizzy at all! lol

One thing about living in Africa though - theres always an abundance of nutrition flying, hopping, slithering or crawling around and in most cases right here in our own gardens! I'm sure they'll enjoy a meal of home grown flying ants just as much as my mudskippers and malawis do! (Skipper vs Ant Video here)

Both tanks have new UVB and infra red heater globes less than a month old. I may have to look into a thermostat to control the temperature though as today's outdoor temperature hit 86F and the tanks internal temp peaked at 104F.

Right now I'm watching Thin Lizzy quite comfortably sleeping on Lemmy's back...

I'm sure she was the patron saint of animals in a past life or something - it's frightening to count how many animals we're caring for! Here's a list...

4 dogs (staffy, german shepherd, jack russel & schiperke)
21 tropical fish tanks
9 hamsters - russian dwarves and big fluffy ones
3 white mice
1 african ringneck parakeet
2 cockatiels
2 zebra finches
2 penguin finches
10 lovebirds
2 bantam chickens
2 ducklings
6 budgies
2 frogs
2 bearded dragons
1 panther chameleon

Wife breeds birds, kids breed mice and hamsters and I'm responsible for the fish overload... The monthly pet food bill is SCARY! lol
