Faucet question

Are you keeping sensitive fish or inverts?
Yes. Some of my fish are sensitive and I'm going to be getting some more that are sensitive as well. I also keep cherry shrimp but want to get other inverts, such as other shrimp and maybe micro crabs and some snails.

IM ASSUMING THAT YOUR USING SOME TYPE OF DECHLORINATION DUCH AS PRIME......
Nope. I'm on well water.

How's the water coming out of your shower?
Same problem with my shower. I used to use the shower to hook up the water changer to but it was even worse.

i do the cold water thing from time to time also. although... not quite at the velocity/volume that would come from a python. tap water... in a bucket... above the tank... siphoned into the tank via an air hose or 1/2" hose... by the time i'm done the tank temp is anywhere from 2-4*F cooler and everyone seems excited. shrimp, snails, top and bottom feeders alike.

Thanks but that's not helpful as I don't have the ability to do it in a bucket above the aquarium. And if I'm going to be filling a 45 gallon aquarium, I don't want to mess with buckets. I want it straight from the tap.

If this happens in all the faucets/taps in your hose, you might want to check if your water heater is the problem. The dip tube may need replacing if the tank is older.

One of my tanks is 30 some feet away from the faucet in a different room....I end up dashing to and fro to make sure the temp is proper.

I also keep an eye on the setting of the faucet where I receive a mix of water - warm/cold - ...am making sure that the hose is already filled with this warmed water, and then procede to filling the tank. After 5 years of doing this on that tank, I have not experienced any problems. Having to lug the gallons for the 55fer would kill me.

Good luck.

I understand the changing temp. Water coming out my kitchen sink always feels like it's alternating hot and cold, unlike my bathroom sink/shower where the temp feels consistent once it's set. Unfortunately, I don't know what causes the hot/cold flow or how to make it stop. I just run some water into a bucket to see how the mix feels and go from there.

I do run the water pretty slow while refilling the tank. I think that helps to "average out" the water temp going into the tank. It also makes it less likely that the fish will get a snootful of chlorine before the dechlor works on the new water, and keeps me from accidentally blasting away at the sand subtrate. Even with a slow fill, using a python is a lot faster than buckets!

Cant be changing that much with a conventional large tank (30-50 gallon) water heater unless you have an electric water heater that flash-heats small amounts of water (2 gallons) instantly and the temperature control valve is not functioning spitting out separate spurts of hot & cold. In that case better use the tub or just fill a 5 gal bucket to adjust for the correct average temp regardless of the hot/cold spurts and then once adjusted just fill the tank directly using a garden sprayer which will help even out the spurts into the main body of tank un-drained water, just make sure your water-changes are not more then 50%.

Obviously you don't want to spray the fish directly or place them in an empty tank and spurt them with hot and cold water. Just use common sense like when your in the tub and you add hot water it doesn't hurt you unless you sitting there in an empty tub.

...can you change/check out the mixing valve on your faucet? Using both cold and warm water at the same time, it should really be able to warm water in the python instead of sending only icecold.
Good luck.
