For beer I like mostly microbrew stuff, or homebrew than I make myself. In the winter Guinness is the staple, in the summer its often Sam Summer Ale. I like mostly strong ales, I've got a cherry pale ale and a citrus-lemon balm wheat ale brewing now that should make for decent summer brews. But, I'll drink almost anything that comes in a bottle. Also a big fan of the Trappist style ales. IPAs are also a favorite, the Dogfish Head 120min will straighten your hair out, can only drink one or two of those (at 8 bucks a bottle, thats fine with me) but the 90min is a little more reasonable.
I'll drink wine occasionally, when I do I prefer reds, my favorite so far probably being Ravenswood Lodi Zinfandel (no, not white zin...real zin). Chardonnay or pinot grigio I don't mind either, but I don't drink wine that much. I like a nice port after a nice dinner though. I've made wine a few times as well, not as often though as generally I'd rather dirnk beer.
For spirits, I'm more of a "brown spirits" kind of guy. Never drink vodka, don't drink spiced rum or white rum. Big fan of single malt whisky (had a glass of Glenrothes last week....wow that was some good stuff) but if I'm just drinking, its usually bourbon or sour mash whiskey...Woodford Res. and Knob Creek are good, but usually something like JD or George Dickel for a staple. I really like martinis (REAL FREAKING MARTINIS not this "fruit salad in a martini glass" crap...gin, dry vermouth and olives, thats it) but I never order them when I'm out because I like a lot of vermouth in mine and no one makes them the way I like them, so I just save the 8 or 9 bucks and the disappointment.
Ok I could do on for hours on this subject....I'll stop now.
