Well, I have an awesome Diamond Watchman Goby, and he LOVES to move the sand around. I also have a feather duster, and my goby keeps digging it up and moving it. It does not seem stressed. It is still coming out, and it even stayed out when I dug a new whole the other day and put him back in. So it is pretty hardy for a feather duster. It shed his crown ones when a manajo anemone stung him abotu 4 weeks ago, and I am concerned about another shedding from all the moving.

I have an idea and wanted to run it by you guys. Would it be fine to get a 1.5" piece of pvc and put the feather duster base in it with some sand around it? So even when it gets dug up and moved it is still covered, I could also easily shove this in any rock outcroppping and not worry abotu the tail end. My only concern is if the tub of a feather duster grows. Will it grow and be hampered by the sand around it not being able to move cause it is in a pvc pipe?

I personally wouldn't do that. You try some other places the goby doesn't go? My diamond goby likes to dig, and throws snails and crabs around like no tomorrow, but doesn't touch the feather duster as it is on the other side of the tank away from his home. Maybe the duster is too close to the gobys home/cave diggings?
