Hi all, I am planning on introducing a feather duster in my tank tomorrow and I would like to get some last minute answers. how often should I feed it phytoplankton? and are there any other foods that they will accept? and finally, what other species are there besides the hawaiian one? I would like to introduce one that is pink and whit if it is possible.

There are a bunch of colors out there, but the 2 most common ones I see at my LFS are the brown hawaiian one and a purple one. Anything resembling pink that I have seen at a LFS is usually a co-co worm, hard tube featherduster.

You should feed it phyto once every 3 days or so. They generally won't accept most other foods as they are too large for them. They are filter feeders and can only eat the smallest of foods (microscopic).

Is feeding phytoplankton a requirement?

I haven't specifically fed mine in the months I've had it and it consistently displays the healthy characteristics Reefscape described. It (and the countless micro hitch-hiking variety on the rocks) must be pulling enough micro particulates from the water column to sustain themselves.

hey I found these turnicates in the back of my tank a couple of months ago, and they are still alive. do you guys think that mine is a nutrient rich tank? because i heard that turnicates and sea apples rarley survive in the aquarium because of the fact that they are filter feeders. also, I added a phosphate remover. will this affect the turnicates because of the fact that I am removing phostphates?

I don't specifically feed mine, I have too many of the little itty bitty ones to do that. I also have 3 filter feeding crabs (porcelain and anenome), so I dump their food right infront of the powerhead, and let them get it out of the water themselves.

We have a yellow Coco that we like. It is from Africa.
