Feed or Not

different species of animals have different requirements then others. herbiverous and omniverous mammals are designed to have food going through their digestive system constantly. that's why we eat 3 meals a day, and its even healthier for us to eat 6-9 smaller meals a day if we can. carniverous mammals can go a bit longer without food, but not usually. like lions or cheetahs in the wild. they can go a week or more without food, but its not good for them and when they do catch something, or scavange it, they stuff themselves.

then look at reptiles. in captivity, people feed large snakes only once every 3-6 months! because they have such low activity levels and they don't burn calories to keep warm, they dont require food very often. they can eat one large meal and it can actually take 3-6 months for them to fully digest that meal.

fish are not mammals. they dont need to eat everyday. i have always skipped one or two days a week when feeding my fish. it gives their digestive system a chance to clear out and rest, and prevents constipation and bloating.

humans also can do well with a fast every now and then. a fast also doesnt necessarily mean not eating ANYTHING. it usually means drinking water, and/or juice, and eating only simple things, like vegetables and fruits for a week or more. it really helps to cear out the digestive tract and remove toxins that build up in the liver and kidneys.
