Feeder fish?

Any puffer w/red eyes, can be called a "red-eye puffer". There is a picture of a T cochinchinesis here (scroll down): PUFFER

Hey, guys. I stopped adding feeder fishes to the tank. They're slowly disappearing. I went to the local LFS last week and asked for some small snails to start a snail farm. From all I've read - and from input from you guys - snails seem to be the way to go. With the occasional specialty treats like worms, crayfish, etc.

Another thing I started doing is to be more consistent with my water changes. I try to do it every other Sunday. Seems to have a positive affect on both my puffer - and the plants. I noticed that the puffer is more active after a 35% water change. And my live plants are flourishing.

I added 5 Tiger Barbs to the tank just to have some life. They're proving to be too fast for my puffer. So far so good.

As for IDing my puffer - when I went back to the LFS - they had another puffer - and they called that one a "Black River Puffer". Tho it looks identical to my Target? - Fang's? puffer.

So I agree that IDing is difficult.

Pics still coming :) I have to wait to get my digital camera for Christmas.

Nocturnal Puffer & Lighting

Thanks, Pufferpunk. I will do a 50% water change a week from now on. I just got a cyphoning (sp?) tube yesterday that should make things easier.

I have a question about lighting for my puffer tank. I've heard others mention that Target Puffers are nocturnal. And in fact I already suspected as much since my puffer is pretty inactive when the lights are on in his tank. But as soon as the lights go out - he's swimming all over the place.

Which brings me to my QUESTION:

I have my lighting unit connected to a timer. The lights go on at 7pm and shuts off at 3am every day. Considering that the T Puffer is nocturnal - do you think that it is screwing up his internal clock to have the "artificial" lighting kick in right during real world night time? Could this cause stress for the puffer?
