I am setting up a snail tank to breed snails for my Loaches to eat.

I set up an ~1 gal snail tank with an UG Filter and seeded gravel. I also packed it with Hornwort to help with water quality.

What should I feed the snails that will promote growth and breeding while not contaiminating the smalle amount of water.

I have been feeding zuchinni and it seems to be working but wanted to check in and see if you guys think this is right. Nitrates were 20 after 1 week. How sensitive are snails to nitrate? Do you guys think a 1 gal tank will be able to provide me with 5-10 snails per week for feeding?

it should supply you with plenty... i have a 20G long set up for snails only, and i found they breed in excess with fish flake food for their daily diet.. as well as a piece of lettuce and a piece of spinach once a week.

I was afraid to put alot of food in there because I was thinking the nitrates would get real high real quick.

Is that not the case? Or do nitrates just not bother snails.

Is there any type of snail that would work alot better than another?

Right now I have 2 different kinds in there.

I dont remember the names (I looked them up last week) but one kind has a shell that looks like a cinimon roll and the other has a cone shaped shell.
