Feeding a Royal Gramma

Hey guys,

So I've gotten my tank cycled/relatively up and running. Things appear to be going pretty well, I have two false percs who have been in the tank for about a week and they're doing really well.

My problem is that I just got a royal gramma (who likes to hide in the rocks), but when it comes time to feed him, the false percs get to the food before him  I can tell he's interested because he'll slowly peek his head out and attempt to get some food, but the percs snatch it away!

What can I do about this to make sure he gets some food?

Thanks,
Tommy

Same problem here. I feed the percs on one side of the tank. Turn off pumps and drop some food in on the otherside of the tank so the clowns go over there. Feed them. When they are done, feed the gramma. In time he will get used to eating that way.

I agree. Clowns are notoriously piggy. They never seem to miss a meal. You'll have to feed them separately. I used to have to do that with my clarkii and engineer goby. The clarkii ate all the food before it made it down to the engineer.

Gotcha, I'll try the method of distracting the percs with food on the other side of the tank =)

If only they learned how to share... =P

Thanks!

So tried the distracting method - it sort of works - he manages to get one or two pellets - about how much do I need to feed him a day? Right now he's about 1-1.5 inches, just want to make sure he's getting fed enough =)

just feed him once a day. also u can try target feeding him using a turkey baster. i always use it to feed my fish cuz its alot easier. ( all my fish are shy except for my six line wrasse which eats anything.) good luck with ur fishkeeping!
