OK, here I am again, bothering everybody about my $5 African Dwarf Frog, but I figure I am this far in, I had best keep him alive after all this work. My problem now: The lazy little thing only eats when I use tweezers and hand feed him. And, he only eats things that look like worms (mosqueto larvee, blood worms etc) SO the sinking shrimp pellets are useless for him (he will sit on them, near them, I can wave shrimp pellets in his face - NOTHING- "not food" he says - "where are the worms?" he says) Anyways, I am going to Europe for 2 weeks in December, and my regular pet sitter has enough to deal with with all my other pets. I cannot expect her to spend the half an hour I am spending every night to feed the picky little bugger, so I am getting worried. Any suggestions on how to get the little guy to eat on his own?? Somebody told me to remove all the gravel when I leave, so he can see the food better and that if he is hungry enough, he will eat the shrimp pellets - but this sounds mean......

HELP :hang: :help:

Shrimp pellets may be too big. For my ADF I just drop in some sinking frog bites I picked up at an LFS here. I never see him eat but he's still alive after 3 months so he apparantly is finding them. I've also heard that they will come to the top to eat the bloodworms that are floating. If it's the only thing in the tank you really don't have to worry about a fish eating them first. But as I said I think shrimp pellets might be too big. My frog bites are tiny.

and u say that you have never seen him eat?? Are the frog bites still there the next day, or are they too small to see?

Most frogs must be fed by hand. Have you read the article linked to in my signature?

yes, thank-you, that is a great article, but like I said, I am just really worried about when I leave, b/c I cannot expect my pet-sitter to spend half an hour feeding him every day. As it is, she only comes every two or three days. I don't mind feeding him by hand, but when I am gone, I need a temp solution. Do you think emptying the tank of all the gravel would help?? But this would mean removing the filter, which may cause more problems...

Like I said the frog bites are tiny so I never really "see" them. With a community tank though I have to take measure to ensure the fish don't eat them so I wait until about an hour after lights out when the tank is completely dark and I drop them in then. That way the fish don't even see it.

Most of the research I did prior to getting the ADF was to hand feed them in a community tank scenerio. I've been fine letting him scavange for food. Just saw him yesterday and he is still alive and well.

But again in a situation that the ADF is all that's in the tank I honestly from my experience, think he will find the food and it's not necessary to hand feed. Just my opinion/experience though.
