I have found that if you break an algae wafer or cichlid stick in half you can insert it into whatever vegetable you are putting into the veggie clip. Then as they eat the veggie they get the algae wafer without the other fish trying to eat it. I have found this works best with cucumber and courgette(zuchini). I also put in veggies just before the lights go out for the night and by morning they are all gone.
great idea!!! as soon as i put zucchini and squash on the veggie clips the pleco bolts to it and bullies the others out of the way till hes done with it, then they can eat!!!!
I too raise Albino Bristle Nose and have found their two favorite foods seem to be zuccani and french cut green beans. I even feed my wrigglers this once they start coming out of the breeding caves. With pleco's you also want to make sure that you have some sort of driftwood in the tank for them to chew on. The wood helps keep their digestive tract in order.
i have a piece of "fake" driftwood in the tank...my loaches squeeeeeeze in there & they love it... i always see the pleco sucking on it, but i highly doubt it is chewing on it!!
I have my pleco in a log , and my trick is to feed flakes, or worms ... then I put my hand in the tank with 4-5 pellets for him in my hand and I place them inside his log with him, the other fish are eating , and he gets his .. with one of my logs it has the whole on top, its funny really my pleco will be in it all day upside down *(belly up ) so I take my hand with the pellets, or algea wafers, and place it in the hole, whoch land right on his belly , and slide around to the bottom middle of his log , he loves this, and I can always see him halfway out eating off the middle floor getting his treats he knew I placed on his belly .. it is really cool. my only sadness is that he is getting big, and at night he uproots a few stems in my 55 angel tank , I am worried he needs a 100 gallons or more now, and also worried abotu my plants . I dont have the $$ to buy a 100 gallon, and when I do I would prefer a 240 . and he is really really pretty , has the long fins and I belive he is called a high fin leapord . ethier way he is soo pretty & I have had him for a few years now . I hate to just get rid of him, but if I find a really good home & a huge tank with a loving care giver I will have to . I now buy only BN plecos they will never outgrow my tanks !! LOL~
