Feeding Blue throat triggers?

Hey guys,

Purchased one yesterday, love him!! Just wondering a few things. What is his main diet, and what can i feed him in terms of frozen food?? What about othr foods??

Also, do they have theeth that have to be kept in control lke puffers by feeding them snail shells?? I thought i read this some where??

I do not have that particular trigger. My Niger trigger, will eat just about anything. Mine will take food from my fingers when I try feeding a coral some shrimp. They do have teeth, as it gets bigger you will surely see them, not like a beak as a puffer. Some triggers can be nasty toward other fish and tank mates, read on what you can place in there with him.

Actually, bluethroats are reefsafe most of the time, and one of the tamest triigers you can get. great for a community. I bought mine at around 3-4 inches, and hes quite healthy. although shy. Not of the other tank mates, but of me, which i find strange, lol. He should adjust in no time though.

Thank by the way. His teeth were my biggest concern. I have heard with some triggers, their diet should include crabs to stop their teeth from over growin and disabeling them from eating in the future.

Depends on your definition of reef-safe. They probably won't bother corals, but most motile inverts. commonly found in reefs (shrimps, crabs, etc.) will be eaten.

The best thing you can feed him is a good variety of foods. Frozen shrimp, silversides, krill, occasionally live crabs and shrimp, etc. I'd also suggest using a feeding stick.
