are cories nocturnal fish? i was wondering because i would like to feed the cories when the lights are off and don't want to pollute the tank w/ all the food on the gravel bed.

They will forage for food at night. It's the only way I can feed mine and not have the danios eat it all.

I have bronze cories and they do forage/eat even at daytime. Why do you want to feed them when the lights are off? They do forage at midnight as well. :D

They're just like any other fish - they're always hungry!

Best way to sneak their food past the danios is to feed the danios floating stuff like flakes or pellets, and have sinking pellets or wafers for the corys. Drop in the danio food and distract them, then toss in the cory food. Works everytime.

i'm feeding them sinking shrimp pellets, but every time i try to feed them the barbs get to it first. some of the food get to the cories, but i wanted to feed them some more when the lights are off.

You can also add Algae Wafers as they will eat them. Mine do at least. They also will eat the flakes that end up sinking to the bottom of the tank and almost any other food that is found.

Yes they will eat at night. I usally drop my food in for them about 30 min before the lights go out as to allow the food to soak. By morning it is gone. What kind of barbs do you have? I have some Gold Barbs and used to have the same issue. I then would add some pellets at one side of the tank and when the barbs were there I just droped in a couple at the other side. This seemed to work pretty well. Also most types of Barbs tend to "Sleep" when the lights are off so the cories should get some food.
