the other day I found my brother tossing a cricket he found into my convict tank. It was just a small cricket and i didnt think it would be a problem so i let him do it. The fish had a great time tearing the cricket apart and the male grabbed it and swallowed the whole thing. It didnt seem to harm my fish at all but i was wondering if i should feed them any more crickets for health reasons. Does anyone else feed crickets to smaller cichlids like cons and is it ok to do that?

i wouldn't feed them crickets from outside. (there are pesticides and who knows what that the crickets walk through.. i dont want my fish eating that)

but i do get feeder crickets from my LFS for my pet lizards and i usually toss a couple in the tank.

I throw crickets and worms and stuff I find into my cichlid tank once in a while. I know that my yard never sees pesticides of any sort, and the fish seem to like it, so I don't worry about it. In the wild they eat anything that hits the water anyway.

ok thanks for the advice my yard doesnt have any chemicals and its pretty isolated from anywhere that does so im not really worried about that, but ill keep it in mind

oh yeah, i live in an apartment complex, so i have no control over what they put in the grass.

yes, i live in a town house complex so no wild critters, but i do regularly feed my fish crickets, meal worms, and other whatever else my mildly occult local reptile store carries

as an occassional treat, it is fine.
