What are some foods that fish can eat?

I was thinking lettus? Carrots? Maybe some breakfast sausage?

I have neon tetra's, snails, shrimp, crabs, and some catfish.

Also, what is the best way to keep the foot at the bottom of the tank? I've heard of using a rubber band to tie it down to a rock? I also say a corkscrew looking thing advertised to do this, but I am concerned that the pointed end of the corkscrew might not be safe.

Vegetables are okay--there's a good thread in the articles on that.

Mammal meats are not really great for fish. I'd avoid them for most species--and if you must, go with low fat flesh. Most mammal fats solidify at tank temperatures, and this can really cause problems for fish.

I've heard that cucumber is great for otocinclus.

As for keepong it donw, I have a clip attached to a plastic tube. I put the piece of whatever in the clip and submerge it to the bottom.

A paper clip or twist -tie will hold down veggies that float. If the veggie has a stem, it works well to anchor it in the gravel. Don't forget to take it out after a couple of hours or it will just rot.

Keep in mind that if you want your fish to have "human" food for an interesting diet, you'd need to keep it confined to about what they'd find in the ocean/stream/lake etc. So since you don't find breakfast sausage in those places, it would probably be a bad idea...oh and the reasons given above point out why it obviously bad. Thought he fish hardly know what they are missing!!!

can't wait to hear of the interesting diet goodies you discover!

Well I was mostly thinking about Crabs, they are carnivourous, aren't they? They eat dead animals a lot and stuff like that. And I thought they would appreciate raw meat more than some veggies.

Good point though - no/low fat. A fat fish is probably not a happy fish.

Along with veggies other "people food" that can be fed to your fish are beef heart and raw shrimp.

I've fed channel catfish pieces of hotdog and pieces of crab meat.

I don't know if they do this everywhere, our local PETSMART sells the little veggie anchors and all the proceeds go to our local humane society. :)
