there's probably other stuff in there that they eat, even if you don't realize it... fry, bugs, worms, algae... my barbs always look like they're eating, even when I don't feed for days.
I can't remember where I read it, but I recall reading that fish can go as long as 1 month without eating. After that they'd definitely die of starvation. Now, I wouldn't want to test that theory, but if it's correct, then 1 week should be fine. Just do as 'J double R' suggested. A good feeding before you leave.
I wouldn't bother man. Non fish people feeding fish is usually a very very bad idea. Their are lots of horror stories of people having someone else feed their fish, they over feed, and they come home to everything in the tank dead.Well thats good to hear, I was going to ask this question in a week or two because i'm going on a week long vacation in July. I will hopefully be having someone come over midweek to feed them though.
