Ive read that its okay to drop the frozen blood worms + brine shrimp cubes into the tank. Its hard to believe since fish are quite sensitive about temperature, especially when attack a block of ice.

i thaw them myself, but i would like to try dropping them in frozen so it sinks to the bottom. anyone else feed frozen foods without thawing?

I do it all the time. As soon as they start to sink my jd and convict gulp them down. Now with smaller fish like guppies I do thaw them out in a cup of tank water.

I used to only feed my fish the food when it was frozen. Never thought of doing otherwise and all the fish were fine. The cubes didn't sink really, they floated and were ripped apart at the surface.

Now I take the cubes and cut them up into smaller pieces on paper towel. Then I dump the pieces into an old food container with tank water and shake it up. This quickly breaks the food up and then I dump everything into the tank.

I thaw on a paper towel or coffee filter so none of the "nasty juice' gets into the tank.
That's what I do too. I know the likes of Cyano bacteria, and I don't want extra "juice" nutrients in the tank.

I thaw mine in a cup of room temperature and then dump it into a strainer. Give it a little rinse and feed. No proplems, much easier then when I was using coffee filters.

i thaw mine in water, and it works great.

i highly recommend Hikari brand frozen foods because the water the food is frozen in is crystal clear. plus all the brine shrimp i bought are whole shrimps. great

I recently fed my angel fish bloodworms for the first tie and she ate them right up...but i had he worms she did not eat go to the bottom and remain until the next clean up...

Have you guys had any luck with those cone shaped plastic things that can hold frozen foods near the surface? if they don't eat what has been given, then you can easily remove the uneaten stuff and dump...

any suggestion on feeding techniques appreciated.

the best way to prevent poluting the tank with uneaten food is dont feed more than the fish will eat. cut up the portions of frozen foods and put it in the tank little by little.

those cone food dispensers do work, but will still polution your tank sittignt there with extra food. they are made so that the fish can pick at it, without release extra food to go into the filter or other places in the tank

I don't buy frozen food unless it is Hikari. It is such great quality and my fish love just about everything.
