Feeding Frozen Foods

Depends on the food, but I never bother to thaw. If it's frozen little animals (brine shrimp, mysis, etc), I toss it in and let it swirl around. It breaks up quickly and everybody gets a bit.

With gelatin-type foods, like formula 1, which remain in a chunk, I hold it in my fingers to let the shrimp and fish get some bits, then use a feeding stick to feed the serpent star a little piece. Meantime, small pieces are flying around for everyone else. If I put it in as a single piece, one animal (fish or cleaner shrimp) would grab it and hog it all.

I take the cube of frozen food and cut off what I plan to use and place it inside the bulb of a turkey baster. I then get some tank water in the baster and set the baster upside down and let it melt. I then squirt the food and water into the tank. The portion I did not use I place back in the pack and keep frozen. About once a week I make sure to squirt some of the food directly into the sand for my sand sifting star.

Not sure if this is the best way but hopefully we will both get some other replys.

I thaw food in a jar of tank water, strain out the solids, crumble any solids, and feed. I try to avoid putting the 'juice' in, though I don't worry about it in my FW tanks.

I read another pretty neat way to do it and if I could remember where I did, I'd post the link.

Buy your fresh fish and freeze it. When it's time to feed, hit it with a grater, get what you need off it, thaw it in water, drain off the water, rinse, feed.

I cut off what I need or add however many cubes, and add a small amount of hot water , just to thaw. Then I add my extreme garlic drops and some water out of the tank. Then I take a spoon and spoon up food with just a touch of juice and put it in the tank. I monitor very closely the amount I am putting in that way not much stays to rot on bottom of tank. I too think the juice is good for the filter feeders. Hope this helps.
