Feeding live foods

Hi all,

i was wondering about feeding live bloodworm etc etc....

how do i go about doing this can i just put the full bag in my tank or do you have to put a few in at a time????

i have never feed live foods before but think my fish would like a treat...

if i put the full bag in will they pollute the water??? or will they live in the water and be there for my fish to find and eat as they please???

what fish are you planning on feeding the worms to?

its generally a good idea to feed small amounts, any leftovers will be wasted and thats YOU $$ down the drain.

you wont want to dump the bag in the tank, you'll need to rinse the worms. a lot of people use a feeder cone for worms, i prefer to suck them into a baster and squirt them into the tank one by one.. its funner that way, and only one worm is ever wasted, since im in control over when they stop getting worms.

hahaha - me too - kind of..umm..cruel to the worm being that sadistic..but I cant help it, they are food.

i ALWAYS rinse off all my live foods, then i let them soak in Zoe (it may or may not do anything I know) for a wee bit and then feed. Try not to put too many in tank, because if they hit the gravel, consider them gone.

i wouldnt call it being cruel or sadistic.. : i enjoy being natural as possible.. worms are a natural food for most fish, and it pleases me to see the fish in their most natural element.

Personally the thought of putting live worms in my tank freaks me out so I use frozen bloodworms. They're perfectly packaged in little squares and my fish LOVE them!! I don't even thaw then, I just pop 'em out right in to the tank and let the fish rip 'em apart

i've been toying with the idea of frozen worms for my rummies and neons, since they love the live ones so incredibly much, and its getting harder and harder to find good stock of live worms. i picked up a 2.5g tank the other day, next time i get a batch i'll be dabbling into the world of breeding my own worms.

well, not me, so i wanna cut costs as much as possible. i would like to sustain my own setup, and things like that help.

I tried breeding black worms - did not work out too well so I just spend $3 a week to feed.
