Feeding my Betta

Betta tank

My firend has her betta in a vase, not a tank- maybe a gallon. Betta's don't swim too much so having a large tank isn't necessary form what I have heard. She has colorful jewels on the bottom. Her betta - male- does not swim too much -very pretty dark red with a little purple in him. She won him at a fair in St. Louis, Missouri- about a year or two ago. He is doing great now that she figured out not to feed him so much.

It doesn't swim much because it doesn't have room.
My betta in his very own 10g tank swims all over the place constantly.
Into and out of the java moss, caves, valleys in the gravel, everywhere.

If you were living in an air tight sealed eight foot by eight foot box 24/7, you wouldn't move much either.

Get that betta a 10g tank (full kit runs $36, with everything you need, filter, heater, light, tank, all of it.
It's worth it, he'll be much more fun for you to watch, and he won't be constantly trapped and poisoned as he is now in the vase.

When I first got my betta I had him in a vase, that lasted half a day, before I couldn't take watching him any longer. (As soon as I moved him he was swimming more, eating more, just overall happier.) Betta's do need room, a 10 gallon is the best option for them but a 5 gallon will do... My Betta swims all over the place; between his plants, and especially through his cave. :)

I had one of my bettas in my 55g and he swam all over the tank. They love to swim if given the opportunity. As for feeding, once a day is exceptable. It doesn't hurt to fast them for a day once a week as well.

vases are not proper betta homes.
I've kept them in anywhere from a 2.5 gallon tank to a 55 gallon tank..they swim all over the place when they have the room. You do not want to keep them with other bettas..either male or female, but they do fine with some other kinds of fish. Don't put them in with aggressive fin nippers...or with fish who's fins they can nip. My betta with the neons will chase them for maybe a couple of inches if they get in front of him, otherwise he leaves them alone.

Just becasue they are sold in the cups doesn't mean they can stay there. I'll bet your betta would like the 10 gallon tank set up for him :)
I would clean it up...if the crabs had any bacterial infections it could harm the betta. Be sure to have a filter and heater. You could then even have a few plants and a few other fisn and have a real nice looking tank!!
