I have a 10 gallon tank with two Pictus Catfish and 2 guppies. I have been feeding the guppies tropical fish flakes, however when i got the two Pictus Catfish the pet store said that they prefer to eat the brine shrimp so i bought the frozen type it comes in little ice cubes. I'm not sure how many of these cubes or how much of a cube i should be giving them and weither or not i should still feed the flakes to the guppies as well. For the first couple weeks i have been alternating by giving a cube one day and some flakes the next. However, the Catfish don't seem to be eating the shrimp as much as they were before, it is almost like their bored of it. i read somewhere that they also like worms but again i don't know what type or how much i should give them. If anyone has any suggestions or tips that would be great.

thanks
Marsha

Just wanted to make sure that you know pictus cats can get to be 10 inches long and will eventually require a tank of seventy(70) gallons. I would suggest returning them to the store now unless you have a future plan for them. If you do have a plan then they do make sinking wafers ecspecially for catfish. Use your judgement on how much to feed them, wether it is flakes, worms, or pellets. Just remember not to overfeed. Eventually your pictus catfish will eat your guppies if they don't die from the small space. They are fine for now though. Good luck! :-)

i actual i'm not sure if they are pictus catfish, i saw a couple pictures and their seems to be a larger one as well if i'm not mistake. the two that i have right now are not even an inch and a half. Or is this just because they are young

Pictus tend to gorge themselves on food but they should still want to eat every 2nd day.

The fish may be stressed. How old is the tank? Have you checked ammonia levels?

All fish are alot smaller when young so if they are pictus they will definatly grow. If you want to know for sure if they are pictus you could google pictus catfish, post a picture, or go back to the store. Good luck!

You sure you dont have a cory cat fish? Most respectable fish retailers would not sell you a pictus cat never the less 2 pictus cats for a ten gallon tank. I would reccomend either buying a larger aqaurium or returning them ASAP.
