Feeding RCS

I am new to shrimp-keeping. I've kept amanos in planted tanks before to work on algae, but never paid any attention to them, and never had any die.

I never fed them, unless I fed the otos and SAEs (occasionally) also.

Do I need to feed my RCS? I thought they'd live off algae? I have 4 in a 10 g which is planted. I waited until there was some buildup of algae to put them in. It's been about 3 weeks and they seem ok, but I just added 2 otos and they really cleaned the tank!

I'm happy to feed them, as I will the otos occasionally...but if so, how often and what?

You can also just throw a few flake every now and again. They will eat just about anything!
 
Do you have other fish with the RCS? If not, then most algae wafers will be consumed. I also like the Shrimp Cuisin by Hikari. Just saying that with fish present, there might be a competition for algae. Though they eat algae, algae isn't as abundant as there are in nature.
 
I feed my RCS every night. I feed them Kens Pellets.

I was more wondering if they needed to be fed (in a planted tank) and if so, how often? I have no idea how to judge their intake and dont want to add excess food to the tank.
 
With that small amount, I wouldn't think you would need to feed them. They can eat off the biofilm that is on the plants and substrate.
