So if I want to feed my ropefish or senegals bloodworms or tubifex worms in the 55g, I thaw them out in a brine net and drop them in the tank. The prob is they instantly spread out over the entire tank and it seems that my fish cant really find them. Is there a way to keep them in one place more or less? I would just drop a frozen cube in there and let them gnaw on it but of course thats a bad thing...
I use a pair of aquarium gardening tongs to feed my Black Ghost Knifefish.
I don't thaw the cubes - I just put them in the tongs and reach down in the general area of his cave.
I saves a lot mess in the tank and ensures that my BGK gets his meal. I have heard a lot of people who said the cubes should be thawed - but I didn't know that when I started and my BGK has grown from 3 inches to over 9 inches and he is strong and healthy. I can's say how it would affect other fish.
With the size of my BGK now, I feed one cube at night and 2 - 3 times a week he gets breakfast as well.
I though about a feeding cone but not sure that dead worms would work their way through the slots. As for the not thawing, I could try that. I think the turning off of the filter might be the best idea (its an xp3).
Hmm, must not have very aggresive fish in terms of appetite I guess. I occasionally throw a cube or two of frozen blood worms in my chichlid/community tank, and not a molecule remaims after a minute or two. I swear my severums see the fridge open and take up strategic spots around the take lid and gallup off with the frozen cube to some corner while leaving a trail of thawing worms. My Balas rapidly devour anything in the water column well before it has a chance of hitting my filter. My pictus cats are lucky to get one or two bits that reach the bottom.
Ive used a turkey baster before to at least get in at the bottom of the tank before the other fish eat them. If you turn off the filter, then use the baster they should get them pretty quick.
