How does everyone feed their fish while they are on vacation? I will be away for 5 days. What should I do if I don't have anyone to feed them for me?
125 gal American Cichlids
55 gal African

most fish will do just fine with a 5 day fast.

just feed them a healthy normal meal before you leave and a huge water change so you don't have a lot of waste built up when you leave and feed them lightly when you get home and do another big water change

fish aren't like mamals - they take a lot longer to starve and in the wild they usually go a while between meals especially the larger predatory fish

My fish went for 9 days without food last month, they were fine. I never worry about feeding them when I'm gone. They can find their own treats in the form of growth on plants and the glass.

I agree. A healthy fish should be fine for 5 days. The exception is some specialty fish like puffers etc...

Thanks, the thought of someone else feeding my fish or not feeding them at all = stressfull!!

i'm sorry i'm confused, does this mean our advise not to feed them is stressful?

i promise it won't be for your fish.

A few days will be fine. I will be away for five weeks this summer - bought four automatic feeders for three tanks. I'll get a friend to come in and refill the feeders every two weeks.

Sounded to me like they were stressing over relying on someone to feed the fish, and who may not do a good job at it :)
