Just picked up 9 yellow labs for 90g tank Sunday. Forgot to ask the previous owner what he fed them and have yet to hear back.

Gave flake and pellets. Paid no attention to flakes and pellets, for the most part, would be spit out.

Think they're still stressed from the move/new environment? will they eventually eat either type of food? How do you train fish to change their diet from owner to the next?

They should be a fed a high quality cichlid pellet. Its likely they're stressed from moving, as in general yellow labs will pretty much eat anything. The best way to adjust them to a new diet is just to keep offering the food, when they get hungry enough they'll eat.

Some frozen mysis should help the transition. Feed lightly while they adjust. Also, make sure all of your water parameters are good. What are your current parameters?

pH:
Ammonia:
Nitrite:
Nitrate:
Temperature:

Have these been changing at all?

When was the last water change and how was it done?

These may help determine if there are any other issues going on and eliminate them.

Btw: congrats! Yellow labs are a fun species.

Cheers,
Russ

Hello Russ,

they are feeding fine now, both flake and pellet. Will look to add some mysis soon. Just took a couple days to adjust. Finally heard back from original owner who said they basically ate everything!
