feeling low, considering throwing in the towel

prazi, isnt that the one we cant get over here? im sure i looked into and its illegal over here. i QT new fish and i add salt if i see any white spot, ive not had to treat for anything more...yet. i didnt QT the 2 new guys as my friend had had them in a tank by themselves for over 6months, infact it could have been longer, i forgot when she got them. all the other fish are fine, no floaty issues. bossfish was the only addition from this particular shop and i decided not to go there again as i found out he would have them up for sale from the day they were delivered.

I've found realistic looking SOFT plastic plants at Big Als. They are so easy to clean.

My main advice is to not make any irreversible decisions without letting time go by to be sure it's what you want. Over the years when I've gotten the blues or have had a very bad related event, I have thought of selling all or some of my most special horses. If a friend had "let" me do what I had envisioned, I'd have sold my stallion about 2mos before his FIRST National Champion win. Just think it through and try and get a fresh perspective. If you're like me with these goldfish (and horses), there are some that are extra special and not replaceable.

Best of luck!

yes there are a couple who i could never replace. ive not heard of big als before, but im in the uk so i guess its not over here. what i really want, is some very realistic looking fancy goldfish safe easy to clean plants...seems there is no such thing. i have a lovely looking 3 foot long plant, looks very realistic, but its quite sharp so i dont really want to add it.

i cant fit bigger into my home unfortunately, though i think 6 feet x 2 feet x 2 feet is considerably large to start with ;) not that i wouldnt love to go 8 x 3 x 3!

Wow, that is a big tank! Honestly this is JMO, but if someone gave me a 6'x2'x2' tank with goldfish I would probably re-home them and do something completely different like a frontosa colony, huge tropical planted community, or oddball predator set-up.....

Good luck, though, with whatever steps you end up taking!

i did have it as a huge planted community, then went on holiday, lets say the fish sitters were a little short sighted, and didnt notice the 1 dead, that turned in to several dead, which decomposed over 2 weeks, i cam eback to around 8 missing fish, dead and dying plants, and i had worked so hard and put so much into it i was devastated. i tore it down, rehomed all the fish and started with goldies.

Try Penn Plax. I'm sure that that is an international brand of aquatic decoration and there must be a distributor near you. I'm sure that I have seen other UK members using these plants in their tanks. Some are good-- some are not so good. I've owned the whole line. In fact, before I went planted, I had all Penn Plax silks and it was pretty convincing.

I was so sorry to hear about your loss. These things are heartbreaking for goldfish owners, and I completely understand both your sadness and your frustration. Just remember, there are a lot of members "on the other side of the pond" who are thinking good thoughts for you, Kelly!

Wow, that sounds awefull...sorry to hear you had to go through that...

Good luck with everything!

well, i have a new vigour for the goldies, im trying to track down a bristol shubunkin. ive wanted one for i dont know how long now, and have just found someone within a couple of hours drive from me who sells 6 inch bristols for £40, a hell of a lot of money considering hes selling fish he pulls at random from his tank. ive emailed and asked if i can come over to see what he has as i wont hand over £40 for a single fish i havent even seen :omg: i think i was just on a real down day, ive also decided to find some more lilies as so far the big 8 inch lily root thing i have in there has shot out like 8 leaves in a week, and so far the goldies have only chewed at the edges of the new leaves :dance2:

Having tried goldfish with plants I can tell you that the chances of making it work are really slim. Goldfish really seem to have an appetite for plants in general. Further, the cool water doesn't bide well for some of the plants they don't eat...

yes i know its difficult, but the lilies seem to be working...so far.
