I did a fishless cycle on my 30 gallon... then panicked over what if the ammonia I used was the incorrect kind or something went wrong so that when I put the fish in they will all die. So I went and bought a cheap Pet Smart betta to see what happens. It's a very pretty pink one with dark lavender fins.

After putting this poor guy into a tall 30 gallon tank, I am reminded of what it must be like if a person who has been poverty stricken their entire life wins a contest where the prize is a large two story house. Only in the betta's case it is more like he won a 110 room mansion. I don't think he's lived ANYWHERE but a cup with perfectly still water his entire life. Isn't that how they raise them on those farms? The current isn't strong but he seems utterly confused. His poor little betta muscles are all atrophied probably. He doesn't seem to be in shock or anything dangerous fish-wise... just in a completely new habitat. When I am sure my tank is safe and I get my angels, I am going to get him one of those Eclipse 5's. Still better than a little cup.

you could leave him with the angels, i have a betta in my 55 with mine and they dont bother each other at all.

of course if some of the angels pair up then he could be introuble.

just dont put any large flat surfaces like amazon swords in and angels probably wont breed though.

Is this related? I don't know.

I have a guinea pig that I kept in a cage about 24"W by 16"D by 12" H, a standard small animal cage.
Wolfpup steered me to a site that recomends that a cage for a single GP be about 7 1/2 square feet, not 2 1/2. The site said that if you give them the extra room, they will begin to actually move (I thought mine was born dormant) and behave like an imprisoned man set free. Well, I am glad to say that it was all true. I now strongly feel that caged animals (which includes fish IMO) need much more room than is traditionally recomended. I can't help but wonder if your betta feels like it won the lottery :D

Hmm, wish I knew how much room my hermit crabs needed to not act like lumps on... sand. I can't help but think they aren't really happy in spite of clean living quarters. Not really fish related though, they aren't even aquatic hermit crabs.
