Female betas with other fish?

Hmmm well for now maybe I will hold off, but maybe when I get my 20 long set up. Would an even tempered male beta do ok with a pair of gourami and a small school of glow fish in 20 gallons?

if you have many females, and introduce them all into the tank at the same time, initial aggression will be reduced

Multiple females can be kept together in a community tank. I recommend at least 4 females (added at the same time) in at least a 20 long. Tankmates include similar sized community fish...I think 4-5 with a school of cherry barbs or harlies and some corys for the bottom would work well in your 20 gal.

I have two tanks with (single)bettas mixed in with no problems. It does take a touch of creative feeding techniques at times as the schooling fish are voracious and speedy eaters, the betta slow but methodical(and has no self control for the amount of food-both of mine just will not stop eating!). I think a 5 gallon tank would be OK with a trio of pygmy cories though, probably not much else, maybe a snail. Bettas will go anywhere in the tank for food, but seem to rely almost completely on eyesight to find food, maybe have micro sinking pellets at lights out for the cories. A betta wont miss a single visible flake or bloodworm on the bottom, and mine even go for algae wafer bits.

Bettas and gouramis are typically mortal enemies, even sparkling gourami.

Think of it this way - if it's something the betta actually is a close relative of (gouramis, paradise fish, other anabantoids) or something that the betta could mistake for a relative (colourful, flowing fins), like male guppies, it will not end well.

...I am also toying with the idea of putting a beta bowl in my iguana's cage (where it will be safe from being knocked over or pooped on of course) as they love watching colorful things move. lol If I do that it would be fun to have at least 2 but would do little good if the fish killed themselves. lol

Seriously?
