I have a 5.5 gal with 3 ADFs in it. It used to also have 5 White Cloud Mountain minnows in it, but over time they have died (age). Could I put a female Betta in with the ADFs?
Thanks!
Monika

Excellent! I already have a male (in his own 3 gal) that I "rescued" from a certain store where he looked miserable in a tiny cup. I thought I'd get a female and maybe try breeding...

My LFS wouldn't let me buy an ADF. They said my betta would kill it! I really would like to add an ADF to my 20gal community tank.

So ADFs and a betta get along?

Yes, and a male would work equally as well. These two make excellent tank mates.

I'm pretty sure Betta Bob meant a female or male betta should be fine with the frogs, not both. Males and females cannot be kept in the same tank except temporarily while breeding — and only then after they have been conditioned, introduced, etc. It's worth some study first, if you're interested in breeding. (I hope I'm understanding your comments. :) )

But, in answer to the original question, yes a single betta should be a good tankmate for your frogs. (Assuming the 5.5g is big enough. I don't know anything about the bioload of frogs or how much room they need.) Betta personalities vary, however, and some individuals are not good in community tanks. Keep an eye on things after the fish is introduced to make sure everyone is getting along.

Oh, I know that males and females can't be housed together - the male is in his own 3 gal tank, the female would go in with the frogs into the 5.5 gal. I've had male Bettas before - one for more than 5 years. I just never had a female or tried breeding.

Over the years... I've had many Male Betas (they're so much better to look at) with ADFs. No issues ever.

Perhaps they were referring to African clawed frogs? They look mighty similar other then the 3 black claws on their back feet, and will injure a betta.
Speaking from experience, I bought what I thought was a ADF (that's what they had them listed as) and after adding him to my tank, I awoke to a betta with half a tail. Gotta be careful!
