i have a cambodian male betta in a 2.5gal and he made a huge bubble nest and insted of leting his work go to waste i ttok a female fancy tia betta and put in there with him it was very interesting to watch them but the female would not submiss to him and refused to go to his nest to breed. so i put her back in the 30. Is there a way to tell if a female is ready to breed? or is she just being snooty. (there were in there for about 45min to an hour)

I think she has to be swollen up with eggs. And I think you're supposed to let them see eachother for a few days first.

Breeding bettas is complicated, if you really want to do it you need to do a lot of research and make sure you have tanks ready for all the hundreds of babies. It's not something to undertake just because your male built a bubblenest so that it won't go to waste.

I have a male betta in a 10 gallon community tank and he builds nests (he's been in there two weeks and he's built two). I have no plans to breed him and he seems perfectly happy. You don't have to breed them just because he built a nest... as Rosemary mentioned, do you have containers ready for all the babies? It seems as though you need to do a little more research before you try to breed bettas. Good luck :o

i wasnt really planing on keeping the babies i was probly going to feed them to the agressive fish i have in a 75 gal since i end up spending a lot on feeders. i mite keep one or two if they are doing well but that would be it.
"(sometimes ya just feel like getting your fish laid)"
