Gregswatson has combo packs for the macro and the micro.

Is this the cheapest and best place to buy ferts?

He alos has som other loose chemicals that he sells as well is this what you could use to make the mixture yourself?

I heard that some people use stump remover and that it works.

Also i have some special hardened pellets for house plants that when exposed to watering do not disolve for years.

Would this work?

I have had them in my house plants for a year and the pellets ar still there.

I would assume that since it is extremely slow release that it would work or maybe it is to little.

When i looked at the combo packs i discovered that i would end up paying 27 something with the shipping thats alot.

i don't understand what i need though?

I am dosing micro but i need macro.

Isn't macro just potasium nitrate?

The stump remover stuff mixed with magnesium.

Macros:
KNO3 (potassium nitrate) for potassium and nitrates
KH2PO4 (monopotassium sulfate) for phosphates

Depending on how soft or hard your water is, and how much light you're using you may also need a gh booster to add calcium and magnesium.

well the water is i think fully of minerals because in the cichlid tank i am always cleaning hard water off the filter and the hood.

So would i be able to use the stump remover?

Also what about monopotasium sulfate?

where do i get that?

Is is just easier to order the ferts/ cheaper?

Stump removers are usually primarily KNO3 but there may be other chemicals added to it. Make sure you're using just KNO3.

It's easiest to get KH2PO4 online. Get it from aquariumfertilizer.com since Greg Watson no longer sells ferts.

Greg sold it to Alan. Alan has been in the plant hobby since 1993 since I first met him. We are both charter members of SFBAAPS(and perhaps the only active original members left).

Alan has done this for a few years now and they are fast and hard to beat for service and price.

I'm not sure why anyone would buy and pay for water, with a few little bits of fertilizer added:thm:

Buy the generic dry powders.
Same stuff, for a few $ and will last years.

Not hard either.
Follow instructions, (just like you do for any brand name rip off). Ask if you cannot figure it out.

Same deal with brand name stuff.
So the brand name stuff is not any or less easier, it just cost 20-1000X more.

I add 4 things:

KNO3
KH2PO4
Trace mix
GH booster.

That covers everything for me.
The rest is just CO2/light, gardening, basic aquarium care.

This is not complicated, as much as most try to make it out to be:)

Actually KH2PO4 is potassium di hydrogen phosphate mainly to supply phosphate to aquarium. But phosphate dosing is really difficult to manage. Overdosing cause green water. K2SO4 is potassium sulphate mainly for potasssium and KNO3(potassium nitrate) to make a bomb.. lol, it's for potassium and nitrate in aquarium.

Tom, could u please explain me about Gh booster and the reason u're using. U don't use K2SO4. I read a suggestion not to use K2SO4 cause it can cause anaerobic air pockets in the substrate causing roots to die and releasing H2S with egg-rotten smell. Any idea.
