After a cleaning of gravel in my 55, I noticed that if I looked really closely at the substrate, rocks, and driftwood, that I have these TINY little polyps all over the place. They are white and look like marine polyps. It is really weird. They do not seem to hurt the fish, but in all the reading that I have done, I cannot find anything out about these things. I would like them GONE. They worry me a bit. Since they are attached to inadament objects, I can only assume that they are organic and not parasitcs. If anyone has had these, or know what they are and what to do with them, let me know please. I have been in the hobby for MANY years, and have not ran across these before. Thanks for reading. Sara

probably hydras, which are a small fresh water polyp... only a problem if you have fry

That is it!! Freshwater hydras. And since I have those d**n worms in my tank, I will allow them to stay.....for now!! Thanks. Sara:dance

Worms? Sorry if I missed your previous post. I'm trying to figure out how to jump all the hurdles before running the race. Hopefully I'm about two weeks away from getting started.

Yes, they happen sometimes. Nothing to be alarmed about. Just cut back on feeding, do water changes, and apparently....accidently add hydras to your tank!! Don't let this scare you off. Sara

I have hydra's in my reef tanks now. I also have all kinds of worms. Isn't it funny how something is bad in fresh, yet good for saltwater, and vice versa. Hydra's are usually eaten pretty quick, at least in my experience.
