I Have 4 Apple Snails in my 20H.

When i got them they were nickel sized, now they are golfballs (after a month) .

I have noticed their shells started to become transparent but smoother, is this bad?

I can see their air sack and etc.

Also how can i tell if one of my snails is preggers?

I am having a similar issue with my snails. I am not sure yet what to do about it, but from the little I have seen so far, it has to do with lack of minerals, specifically calcium. I live in Portland, OR and we have very soft water. Hopefully some other people will have better advice for both of us.

So the transparency is bad? :(

Their Diet consists of : Shrimp Pellets, Hikari Algae wafers, Hikari Sinking wafers, bloodworms, and flake. lol they eat a alot.

Does the shell appear thin? If so, do you dose calcium at all? What are your pH and hardness levels? Your menu seems insufficient. Focus on calcium rich foods such as collard greens. Make some snail jello through msjinkzd's recipe sticky thread. Try feeding Tums or Caltrate. You want the Caltrate without Vitamin D added although one with Vitamin D can work but the amount of Vitamin D if that version is used quite often may probably have consequences to the snail's health so I use Caltrate (with Vitamin D) only from time to time in case Tums is unavailable.

As far as being filled with eggs, I don't think there is a way from the physical characteristics however if you notice a snail staying in one corner and even going above waterline, then it could be a sign she will lay eggs anytime. Whether there is a male or not, the female will lay eggs. They can store sperm for months and will lay several clutches although as time passes, the fertility of the eggs diminishes.

Been getting a clutch every morning for the past two days, made an incubator.

1 clutch in the incubator, the other is still stuck to my glass top :)

I plan on mixing up some snail jello asap. :)

I love snails!

Snails and Corydoras = My favorite fish.

Also had a casualty one of my biggest snails escaped and fell on the floor, the impact killed her :(

The other one escaped too, it fell but didnt even hurt its shell its the one thats been laying eggs. Hope they are fertile, now i wont have to buy snails for the rest of my tanks :D

I find that the transparency often occurs when they are growing too quickly (causing thin shells). What is the tank temp? Its difficult to tell from the photo, but it appears generally pretty healthy. What is your pH? What are you feeding? If it has a calcium rich diet (veggies, good quality pellet with high calcium content) you don't need to worry about supplementing with additional calcium. In ivory snails, sometimes you can see the eggs through the shell, its difficult to tell whether its fecal matter or eggs, lol. You will see the females grooming above the waterline when they are about ready to lay. You should drop your water line an inch or two at that point (about as far down as the largest snails diameter). Also, make sure the tank is lidded so they do not try and escape to lay.

Temp stays around 80 and the Ph ways 8.4 last test ( 3 days ago).

I just looked at my tank again, they are mating AGAIN! lol
