the water form a water change would be good. better even. it doesnt need to be perfectly clean, and it will have more bacteria already there in the water to help with the cycle.

if it is cured it willl smell like the ocean.
if it isnt, it will smell like death to put it simply.
putting it int he sun for a few days will kill everything, but then you will have to clean EVERYTHING off because there will still be dead things on there.
it wouldnt cost a lot, all youd need is a bucket (1-5 bucks), a small powerhead(10 bucks) and a small heater (10bucks)
