Fiji Ban ! :(

I was looking through liveaquaria.com the other day and I noticed that they said that there was a ban on shipments from Fiji so no more fish or corals would be coming in soon at all! so I guess allthe precious stuff we all got from Fiji will now become not only much more precious but our last.





BTW would 4 WPG be enough for a xenia, flowerpot, and long tentacle anemone???

The way I understood it, the 'ban' is temporary, from a single vendor, until the vendor gets their permits approved again.

For lighting--it depends on the depth of the tank and what kind of lighting you have, how long the tank has been set up, and if you'll be target feeding. Flowerpots in general should be avoided--there are several species, and some do well, and others die for no identifiable reason. They are not for beginners. Anenomes can be cared for properly, but new tanks tend to subject them to many fluctuations, and they suffer. Most xenia is easy to care for, but does like high lighting. 4 wpg should be plenty, but if you are using VHO, make sure you schedule to replace the bulbs about every 8 months--xenia will crash as the bulb spectrum shifts.

Well, because Figi has not cooperated with CITES for so long. CITES could very well make it a permanent ban. It does not seem likely that they will however.

And its not a certain vendor. Its all Figi live rock (aquacultured rock is still avaliable)

well I just heard there is a ban on all shipments from fiji (not sure if just LR or fish etc. too) but they might take it down. However, they're not really putting sny fish or corals or anything like that back into the oceans so there might be an all-out ban. I also heard the guy from my LFS say that since they're not really doin' much against totally pulling out many of the specimans in the oceans they might ban or ilegalize it altogether in probably at least 10 years, which makes sense.
