On the inside of my tank, when the water level drops you can see a film on the glass. It can't be wiped off or cleaned. But it looks clear when it's wet. Should I just let it go? What can clean it? I remember someone telling me about using acid, but I rather not try that.

The film is likely hard water deposits--in other words, calcium carbonate. It dissolves when there's water on it, so no biggie. Keeping your water level consistant is important--I would increase either watr changes or FW topoff.

Otherwise, vinegar on a rag will get it off.
 
I have an open topped turtle tank with a waterfall feature that provides a constant source of splash/evaporation around the waterfall. I use vinegar on a scrub pad (the scrub pad is dedicated to aquarium use only, never been near dish soap).

Of course the turtle is an air-breather, so the consequences of mild vinegar contamination in his water is negligble. I would be much more stingy with the vinegar if I attempted this trick with a tank containing fish.

Maybe a razor blade would do the trick :confused:
 
If you want to use white vinegar it is fine. But I would use it just before any water changes, that way any that makes it into the tank will be extra dilute when you are done.

Of course it will just keep coming back so I would do as Oriongirl says and just make sure to keep things topped off between water changes.
 
odd

if you could free up the tank for awhile.... try brillo or plain steel wool. just rinse well. i have a used tank that was so bad i literally had to go over it with a razor blade twice and then i used brillo........ good as new :)

that's one of the great things about glass. (i hope this *is* a glass tank.)
