Filstar XP2 and XP3 review

I have an XP2 and an XP3..I love them..Quiet, easy to assemble, easy to clean, self priming..never a problem with about 1.5 years of use on each one.

XP3 replaces Fluval404

Being new to fish keeping and my first filter being a Fluval404 I was quite surprised at the differculty of priming it. So over a period of a couple of months having had a lot of problems priming the filter I decided in the end that the fluval was just not fit for purpose, due to the differculty of priming it.

I have a Trigon350 tank which means both the input and ouput to the filter must go over the top of the tank. This I beleive is the problem, I tested the flow on priming and got the filter to prim and work as long as the outlet pipe was not higher than about 110cm from bottom of filter to highest point of water flow. It actually needs to raise to about 130cm.

So I was quite amazed when I setup the XP3 how simple it was and prims so easily, really no issue and cheaper as well. The XP3 certainly out exceeds the Fluval in the configuration I require.

The whistling is from the spray bar. You can turn the water flow down or simply drill the holes in the bar to make them a little bigger. This should take care of the whistling.
