Newbie here..first post so be gentle. :)

I am new to this hobby and have bought a 75 gallon freshwater tank. I'm coming up on week 5 now and the tank is still cycling but I've noticed that my water is constantly cloudy. I'm wondering if this is because is it still new or if I may need more filtration. I currently have an Emperor 400 running and it seems to be moving the water well on one side but the other side seems to be quite still. Could this be contributing to my problem and should I add a second filter to the tank? If so, should I add another of the same over on the other side or a different type altogether like a cannister? My ammonia levels have also been high (3ppm) so I added Ammo-Lock at the advice of the shop owner. My Nitrites are at .25 with a PH around 7.2. (I suddenly feel like I should have paid more attention to Chemistry class in college.) I was also told to add Stress Zyme, which I did. We also had a case of Ich which is being treated. There are only 4 fish in there while the tank is cycling. I'd appreciate any help you can offer.

The cloudiness is more than likley a bacteria bloom this is common when tanks are cycling. Don't fight it, it'll clear up on it's own. The filter you have will be ok for awhile but as you add more fish you may want to upgrade. Of course leave the filter you're currently running on the tank until the new filter establishes a bio filter. Oh and lastly, read, read, read, there's much to learn.

Thank you for your quick responses!

if you dont want to invest in a canister, i would get another E400 or an Aquaclear 500 (cheaper and a quality filter). that single filter is not going to be sufficient for a 75, IMO (in my opinion).

yeah, the cloudiness is probably bacteria (a good thing). just take it slow and welcome to aquaria.

man, i wish i woulda started with a 75... good call.
