Filter capacity...

Sorry for posting so much, but now I have 1 more question. For my 75 gallon tank, I am considering a Fluval 404, since I have a Fluval 104 on the other, I think it will be ebst to stick to one design that I will become familiar with. It says the filter is made for a 100gallon tank, will it be ok on a 75G? the next smaller size is the 304 which is made for a 50 gallon tank. Is too much filtration bad? The fluval 104 is made for a 25 gallon tank it says, but it is doing a great job on 45 gallon tank. Any suggestions, comments, criticism?

I feel you can never overfilter a tank......

The only issues with over filtering is sometimes the current might be too strong coming out of the filter for smaller fish.

If this seems to be a problem for you I think they sell a spraybar for it to help distribute the flow more evenly

take what they say and cut it in half. a fluval 404 would be a nice main filter might also want to add a back up filter.... maybe a hob... like a hot mag or AC filter..... i personally would go with a rena xp3.

You want to be able to filter all the water in your tank atleast 4 times an hour so thats what you should base it on. The suggestion of cutting what they say in half is a pretty good one but from a company like marineland I would take only about 20 gallons off because their tests are on a tank in a controlled enviroment.
