filter carbon in planted tanks?

do you guys use the carbon in your filters in your planted tanks.i heard somewere that this was a bad idea?

Routine use of carbon filters in any aquarium is essentially not needed. Carbon filtration can be used to help rid a tank of medications after a treatment regimine.

It removes chemicals in the water. This can include ferts which you want to keep in the tank.
