Have any of you used bleach to clean filter cartridges, pads, etc.? I just soaked the cartridge for my ocean clear with 2 cups of bleach mixed w/ about 2 gals of water in a bucket for 6-7 hours. I rinsed it out and soaked it again with just water for approx. an hour. After that, I can still smell chlorine from the cartridge and the bucket. I then rinsed it again thoroughly and still smell it, but the scent is weaker. If I constantly rinse it, won't the scent eventually go? Also, would it be safe to use since the chlorine will remove itself?

I've cleaned equipment with bleach before, to sterilize it. Rinse like crazy, and then place the item(s) in a bucket with clean water and LOTS of dechlorinator. Then to be safe, let it sit out as long as you can - within a day or so any remaining chlorine will dissipate.

i would use a lot less bleach, about 5% and not 50%, but I would only bleach decorations.

I've never used bleach...

Only for laundry.
