Filter Floss & Prefilters

Paul,
For your 2 magnums used for bio - do you prefilter these?

Romeo.

I like the micron filter on the magnum's. I use it as a water polisher on my tank. I have a eheim & a whisper running, and the magnum runs constanty. I change it every week with my second micron filter. Keeps all the stuff out of the tank pretty good. It does reduce flow rate as it get's clogged, but that just means it is doing its job.

I use the blue filter sleeve to prefilter the balls and I change that every month also. Yes, the micron sleeve does work in the short term...but...
I'm trying to minimize the wear and tear of the o-ring on the outside edge.
Hey, as long as it works for you, keep on keeping on.

Well said. Micron filters are nice if you like polished water, but the very nature of what they do dictates that they will plug quickly like many things it's a trade off that may or may not fall into someones personal preferences. my big tank has a fairly natural jungle type look, and water polishing is really un-necessary for my likes and dislikes not to mention with 6 big messy fish it doesn't stand much of a chance at the polished look. In other tanks it really enhances the look of the tank. my guppy tank is crystal clear, and it bothers me when it has any suspended particles. I haven't yet put a fine filter media in, but have been giving it some real thought lately.
