Hi. Well, yesterday I'd set up my empty tanks to begin cycling (no fish yet--just water and heater). I have an old Penguin Bio-Wheel 125 that I was planning on putting on the 10G. After I laid everything out, I noticed that the 125 was in my dog's bed--and in pieces.

So I have to get a new filter. But there's no 125 anymore. Should I get a 100 or a 150? The 100 says for up to 20g. They 150 says for up to 30g. I currently have a 150 on my 20g so maybe the 100?

Any other filter suggestions? I like Bio-Wheels but they can be noisy.

I have the 150 on my 25 gallon. It is a pretty big unit. I think the 100 will be perfect for a 10 gallon.

I reccomend the penguin 100.

I personally like Eheims aquaballs. THey are submersible and are much quiter than the biowheels. I swore off of those because I don't care for the noise..I ran them for about 5 years.

This is what I have on my 10 gallon. You can dial back the current some, when newly clean it can really whip it around, but I like it. I have cherry shrimp in the tank and they don't get caught in it. It's kinda like a big powerhead with a filter attached.

I've used an internal filter in my 10 gallon. It worked great and was very quiet. I have also used an HOB rated for 20 gallons. I would suggest one rated for 20 gallons over 10 gallons but I wouldn't go any bigger. You dont want too much current in the tank.

I have a Penguin 100 on both my 10G and 20G. The 100 has no problem with the bioload of the 20G. I stuck with the 100 for the 20G, so I could make stocking filters easier.
