Filter intake tube danger for Shrimp?

I am getting some cherry shrimp and wanted to know if I should try and screen off the intake tube on my filter? dont know if there is a possibility of them getting sucked up...?

The adults will be fine, but any offspring would likely be sucked up. You can cut a sponge and cover the intake easily enough.

you can go to pretty much every LFS and find a great sponge that will cover your filter intake as well as add some biological filtration.

An alternative is a nylon cloth (like from tights) secured over the intake. If there are plants, it would collect debris and need to be cleaned to keep the filter operating correctly. I have used nylon socks from a local grocery store.

i think a sponge is better then a nylon cloth.

I use the regular intake screen but I pull a filter media bag over the screen to protect the baby shrimp. Any plant matter that gets stuck to the intake will be eaten by the shrimp. I see my cherry shrimp crawling all over the media bag over my intake tube muching on the dead plant matter.

I've also used cheese cloth and zip ties
